Gus Papas The Legend

Canadian Guitarist/vocalist Gus Papas born and raised in Toronto performed in clubs in the late 70’s all over Northern and Southern Ontario in Knock Your Sox Off playing Covers and Originals. Gus was discovered by Daffodil Records chief Frank Davies as part of his LOVE Productions company who was developing and licensing artists outside of Daffodil Records itself.

Davies shopped Gus’ material in New York and an old acquaintance of his with Beatles ties, Nat Weiss, signed Gus to his Nemperor Records label with distribution throughout North America and Europe.

The debut album “GUS” “Convicted” was recorded at Masters Workshop in Rexdale, Toronto Ontario Canada, produced by Steve Vaughan (Klaatu, The Hunt) and released in 1980. Based out of Los Angeles Gus toured the United States headlining in Texas and opening for acts such as The Charlie Daniels Band, Joe Jackson and Angel City. In 1984 the album Gus & The New Breed ‘On The Verge’ had Tony Bongiovi & Lance Quinn producing Side A at The Power Station in New York City. Cliff Davies produced Side B at A-Square Studios in Ann-Arbor, Michigan.

In the 1990s, Gus fronted Legal Tender, a straight-ahead original blues rock band based in Detroit. Legal Tender showcased Gus’ songs in New York, and they toured with acts that included Steppenwolf, Robin Trower, Marillion, and the Irish blues-rock legend Rory Gallagher.

In 1998 Gus moved back to Toronto and joined the newly formed Bottle Devils featuring Alec Fraser (Bassist & Producer for Jeff Healey Band) on Guitar, Leo Valvassorie ( Ronnie Hawkins, Alannah Myles) on Bass and Henry Diclemente (The Deserters) on Drums. Electrifying audiences at nightclubs, festivals and corporate functions, The Bottle Devils repertoire Stones-Kinks-James Brown-Jimi Hendrix-ZZ Top and many other favorites captured the spirit, the intensity and sheer joy!

During that time from October 1998 to October 2010

Gus Papas and The Bottle Devils resided at Roc ‘N’ Docs in Port Credit every Sunday Night.

In March 2005 Gus released his first independent original music CD ‘Shake The Devil’ that was engineered and produced by Alec Fraser at Liquid Toronto.

Currently Gus lives in Mississauga, Ontario and still performs  regularly with The Gus Papas Band.
